Biofuels

Production of renewable energy, in general, and biofuels in particular has risen rapidly.

The interest in biofuels is derived from concerns in relation to global energy security, a need to diversify and create value for agricultural produce, and an increasing awareness of the environmental impact that the continued use of fossil fuels is having in the world.

Renewable energy, in the form of biofuels, generated from biomass is seen as a more environmentally acceptable energy source that can be used to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases and lower the demand for the use of fossil fuels.

The main biofuels are, bioethanol or alcohol made from anaerobic digestion and biodiesel produced by transesterification with both derived from organic biomass.

Biofuel plants have requirements for storage tanks and silos for input ingredients, for sugar and starch crops such as sugar cane, vegetable oils and animal fats, as well as for storing feed water and fire water for the site.

Permastore was an early pioneer in the anaerobic digestion industry and today the Company continues to supply its FUSION® family of products for biofuel applications including storage, process finished product tanks.

PERMASTORE® modular bolted Glass-Fused-to-Steel (GFtS) tanks and silos can be utilised in biofuel applications. They give significant benefits over traditional onsite welded structures providing a credible alternative to the API 650 standard for welded tanks and to the 12B specification for bolted tanks.
